November Meeting: Saturday November 17, 2012 2:00-4:00 PM
Where: Trinity Church, 23 Main Street, Northborough, MA
Guest Speaker: Jonathan O’Dell, Communication Access, Training and Technology Services Department’s Training Director, MA Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Topic: Assistive Technology for People with Hearing loss and Emergency Preparedness
The next meeting will be a combination of Assistive Technology and emergency preparedness. In August of 2011, we experiences a hurricane that caused havoc as people were without power. Then two months later, a major snowstorm during Halloween week! The question is how did people get information as the TV was not working therefore no captioning is available? If you have a cochlear implant, how do you recharge your batteries?
Equally important is how do you prepare yourself for pending weather related power outages? Is the State or town Emergency Management council aware of the needs for people with hearing loss? What are the options available for communication with the police, fire department and other emergency personnel?
Jonathan O’Dell will be presenting on this very issue. He has worked closely with the Emergency Management Council. He is a gifted and entertaining speaker who, no doubt, will provide new information for you! Come and bring your questions!
CART will be provided. The Trinity Church is across the street from the Northboro Library.
